Wal-Mart Beauty Box: Winter 2014

So I got the latest Wal-Mart Beauty Box and figured I’d share a little about what was inside!

So I was complaining about not getting tracking codes for the last box.  This box arrived without any notification of shipment–until today, nine days after I received it.  The email said the order was generated today, but the tracking code says I recieved it on the 20th.  Get it together, guys.  Haha

Anyway, the value of this box was definitely less than last month, but I’m still pleased with what I got.

Jergen’s BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream in Fair to Medium (1 oz sample size) – This is like an all-over moisturizer and extremely sheer concealer.  The shade was fairly light and I noticed a slight concealing effect, but I feel like this would be too light for most people who see the sun.  It’s supposed to firm, which I always consider a dubious claim.  I like this for my legs, which tend to look uneven, but it just seemed weird on my arms, kind of making my freckles look milky.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Maple Kiss (full size $5) – I feel like the colour swatch on the site is more brown than the actual shade, which was a little more mauve.  It’s meant to have a finish that’s not super shiny.  I regifted this, but it’s pretty and covers the value of the box.

Olay Fresh Effects Everything Off! Makeup Removal Cloths (sample size of 7 sheets) – These are a little heavily scented for my taste, but they work nicely and I’m always happy to see these in my bags.

L’Oreal OleoTherapy Oil Infused Shampoo and Conditioner (sample sizes, 2oz each) – These are sulfate and paraben free, which is cool.  I like the smell, which is vaguely almondy.  The formula on each feels super thick and creamy–I don’t really have to use a lot to get good coverage.  I haven’t noticed a ton of difference in the feel of my hair normally, but when I use the smoothing brush from my Influenster VoxBox, my hair feels pretty spectacular.

I also got a lotion sample packet and a couple coupons.

  1. Wow. I did not get these itemsat all.

My box must have been sponsored by Unilever. It had the new Dove “Oxygen” shampoo and conditioner and a Dove bodywash. I’ve never tried Dove for hair so that will be new. ( Plus I always appreciate “travel size” shampoo and conditioner. )

In keeping with the Unilever theme, Walmart also included Pond’s towelettes and Pond’s Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle cream. Because I’m old. LOL. At least according to Walmart. I’m not sure if I’ll use it — I have stronger “anti-wrinkle” stuff at my disposal. But it does smell nice so…???

And my favorite item in the box : Covergirl Outlast lipcolor. This is a very unusual 2 part process : first you apply the color which goes on like lipgloss but dries matte. Then when it’s dry you put the clear “conditioner” ( read : gloss ) on top. The top part gets re-applied throughout the day while the colored undercoat is supposed to last without touch up. So that’s kind of an all-day lipstick? It would seem to me if you still have to touch up your lips that’s a “fail” but I guess if neglect to do that you still at least have color? At any rate the novelty factor will carry me at least a week! The color they sent me is a little off for my taste — the title says “wine” but it has brown cast to it. But I would seriously consider purchasing in another shade.

So for $5 I got some travel accessories, a lipstick and a gift to somebody else. Not too shabby! I thought this might sway me towards ditching ipsy but ipsy has a different flavor to it. I can’t see the Walmart box including any high end items and no “surprise” brands either. So now I’m hooked on both. Yup. Sounds about right.

    1. I think I tried Covergirl outlast 5ever ago, and I didn’t like it because the undercoat kept getting too dry, so it would flake off in big chunks into the topcoat XD Maybe they reformulated it, though. I remember LOVING the topcoat just as a lipgloss. It felt so lush.
Yeah, I REALLY like this box. I didn’t know they did anything at all to customize them, so that’s interesting! I like ipsy because it feels really ritzy to put a $50 product on my face, but there’s a near-zero chance I’ll buy it. With the Wal-Mart box, I’m absolutely definitely going to buy the deodorant they sent me, probably forever!
