There is no sound that can’t be done without. I think it’s worth any effort necessary to dampen and hide unnecessary noise, to offer our ears rest from the wear and tear of the day. I think we should have a choice about what we hear. I think we could all do with a little more quiet.
I hear so many sounds day in, day out. I almost barely perceive some of them, so routine and ubiquitous. Exhaust fans, far away chatter, cars, my own breathing. Some are a pleasure. Birds, leaves rustling, song, laughter. Some I can’t stand at all. Alarms, sirens, sneezes, televisions. Sometimes, it’s tiring to hear so many things. Sometimes, I just want nothingness.
But no matter how many sounds I hear all day long, I savor each and every sound you make when we touch.
