Walmart Beauty Box : Spring 2016

IMG_1235Here’s another Walmart Beauty Box! They’re “free” ($5 shipping per quarter) and they now let you choose from one of two beauty profiles. They automatically chose “trendsetter” for me, since I was at the time under 30. The millennials, they love trends!

I’ve gone on and on about why I love this box, but it really is just the right price point, shipped just often enough for me to never be disappointed. I always seem to get one item that makes the subscription feel like a good value for me. This month was no exception!

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste – I’m pretty sure this is a sample size tube, but it’s still very large. I’ve gotten this from Influenster and purchased it on my own. It promises whiter teeth in three days. While I can’t speak to that claim, it’s definitely whitening.

Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser – This is a clear, nice-smelling cleanser. I used it on my nose and chin and it had the most neutral results of any cleanser I’ve ever used: nothing bad to report, nothing terribly great. I could feel some random rough chunks in this, and I couldn’t’ decide if it was supposed to be the baking soda or some plastic microbeads (boo! hiss!)

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer – This is a fake tanner. I never try these, but figured I’d give it a go. I’m very fair, and this was splotchy on me. It’s a nice “natural” fake tan on me, but using this daily would be a big no.

Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick – OMG THIS SMELLS LIKE NOSTALGIA. It smells like a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker. The shade is somewhere between pink, puce and brown. It’s a nice natural shade on me. This is full-size and a $7.50 value!

Curel Itch Defense Body Wash – I haven’t tried this, but I’m surprised this wasn’t part of the winter box. It says it’s for dry skin, and that’s when my skin is at its dryest.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter – I’m not so sure about this product. It claims it will lighten your hair! It says it will do so without going brassy, but I am skeptical. I might try this. It doesn’t smell at all like a chemical lightener and it has some natural extracts that should be nourishing.

CeraVe Healing Ointment – “Protects and soothes cracked and chafed skin with a non-greasy feel”. Will I be trying this to protect against chub rub? You betcha.

Vera Wang Embrace This is the blue scent, which is Periwinkle and Iris. I hate perfume samples, but this was a nice scent.

Others – A foil packet of Burt’s Bees BB Cream, a shade sticker try-on card from Loreal True Match and some coupons.

Walmart Box: Winter 2015

walmarI continue to love the Wal-Mart box!

The sample sizes are big enough to be a real treat. I know my expectations of this box are significantly lower than of the other subscriptions I’ve tried, but I owe that to the fact that Wal-Mart never tried to ratchet up my expectations. This month? I was super pleased. I was a little surprised that they didn’t aim more at the gift-giving angle, but this was a good month for me.

Goody SlideProof Elastics (full size!) – Okay, I was so jazzed about these. They have little grippies that remind me of my early aughts tweenhood. My hair is just short enough to gather into a low ponytail. I don’t feel like these elastics do much to hold my shorter hair in the band, but I can tell that the band doesn’t budge where it’s set.

nspa Coconut Rich Body Butter (1.7 oz) – This smells very coconutty in the tub, but when I rub it on, the scent almost entirely disappears. For me, that’s actually a win, but I feel like that would be a disappointment for most other humans. It promises “vitamins for your skin”. but on a fast pass-through, the main ingredients aren’t too special compared to other lotions. I don’t see anything coconutty in the ingredients–though there are a LOT of ingredients in there. It feels okay, a tad on the greasy side.

Pantene Hairspray extra strong hold (1 oz.) – I’m always happy to get hairspray samples because I use so precious little of the stuff. This smells very faintly of fragrance. This doesn’t feel terribly sticky, but I haven’t gotten a chance to do a bit updo.

Pure Silk Shave Cream in Raspberry Mist (2.25 oz) – I love this shave cream, and I’ve actually used it in the past. It smells sweet without being overwhelming.

Dial 7-Day Moisturizing Lotion Omega Moisture (0.5 oz) – This smells like tangerine. It takes a while to dry, but feel like moisture–not greasy or heavy, just kind of wet and supple.

Ken Paves You Are Beautiful Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner for Fine Hair (packets) – I haven’t gotten to try this, but I’ve been told its smell is “natural spa”, whatever that means. I’ve been putting off using it because… uh, for fine hair? YEAH that’s not me. [Update: This smells like a drum circle. While applying it, my hair actually felt stiff. Today, my hair is really shiny, but definitely BIG. The ends feel dry. It’s weird.]

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser in White Tea (0.5 oz) – Waaaaait a minute. This is a repeat from the last box! I’m not sure why, but I’m actually quite glad. It feels really nice on. I’m not sure if it’s doing wonders for my skin, but it seems to be very gentle and it’s a no-fuss application. I just use it in the shower.

Centrum Vitamints (2 chewables) – So these are a bit different. It’s all the fun of taking Tums, but with a weird, vitamin capsule taste at the end. Yum-o! You’re supposed to chew two a day. I don’t love mints and I don’t love these. It’s a good concept, but not for me. A cool sample to try, though!

J by Jennifer Anniston (packet sample) – I hate fragrances, so pass. Comes with a $3 off coupon.

Olay Tone Perfecting Cream Moisturizer (packet sample) – Neat, but I don’t understand a sample of a product that has to be used over time. Comes with a $3 off coupon.

Covergirl – Product brochure for their Star Wars makeup, and a $3 off two eye products coupon.

Wal-Mart Beauty Box September 2015

IMG_0709This box came out of the blue, and was one of the fullest I’ve gotten yet. I was super pleased with pretty much everything in the box, and I felt really happy about the $5 cost this month. While none of the brands were new at all to me–and even many of the products are ones I’ve seen on shelves–I was glad to try a few of these products. And there are a few things I’ll be buying!
