Ipsy Bag Review: April 2013

The Bag: This bag is a white textured material with a pink zipper, and a pink striped silk lining.  I don’t think white bags and makeup mix well, so I probably won’t use this.  Cute, though!

Two Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow in Heartache: I think pink eyeshadow is underused.  These were two colours that didn’t seem to go well together in the pan.  One looks slightly on the orange side of pink and the other is a pearly cool pink.  They both were different when swatched… under the cut we go!

The pearly pink is quite sheer and makes a surprisingly nice highlighter.  The darker pink came out quite dark on my eyes due to my foundation, but blended really nicely.  Is it worth (regular price) $6.99?  I think you could probably get comparable products for less.  This was a pretty small (and difficult for me to open) pot.  Their other colour combinations aren’t terribly exciting, either.

Be a Bombshell Blush in ??? – The box said this was Sweet Cheeks, but it looks nothing like the shade I see on their site.  Anyway, the blush I got was a bright pink.  I don’t wear blush often. I have very blushy cheeks and most of my makeup is sheer.  But when I do wear a thick foundation, I never have a good blush!  Bright pink isn’t something I’d choose, and it seems strange to me.  And I don’t think anyone should pay $16 for blush, but if you choose to, this would be a good one to get (especially with the ipsy discount!)  It seems to have a nice texture and it’s a good size.

Sexy Hair Soy Renewal – Another Argan oil product.  I’m like ARGHan oil at this point, amirite?  The instructions say to apply it to dry hair to smoothe it, or to wet hair to help it blow dry faster.  Can someone confirm?  That sounds bullshitty.  A little goes a long way with this.  The smell is a little off to me, but not unpleasant.  Likely not something I’d buy, though.

Sation Nail Lacquer in Love at First Bite – This is a pale peachy shade (I would never describe this as pink…) and it’s very sheer.  One coat looks a bit like my nails were stained by something.  It’s not streaky at all.  I just put three thick coats on my nails and I can still see the white of my nail through the polish.  I like it a bit more than I thought I would up close, but from far away it’s barely distinguishable from my skintone.  This would’ve been a nice polish for early this spring.  Would I spend $5 with this brand?  I’d need to see a review to be assured that the shade was thicker.

The Overall: I like it when Ipsy picks a theme and runs with it.  This was a cute bag altogether  and I’m pleased with the products.  I got THREE full-sized products, which is a pretty solid value.  I also felt like they really amped up the offers this month.  Two brands offered a free product with any purchase, which is pretty cool.

  1. Ive been using the healthy/sexy/hair soy renewal for awhile now, ran out about a month ago, and can definitely attest to the fact that it does speed up blowdrying. I was so excited to get it in my bag!

    1. That is so interesting! Thanks for sharing. I’d never heard this about any similar product, so it sounded SO WEIRD to me. Very cool.
